Member Spotlight:  Joao "John" De Almeida

Hi, my name is Joao De Almeida but everybody usually calls me John or JohnD. I have been a Supply Chain Professional for the last 15 years in Canada and the United States in multiple Industries (Metals, Office Furniture, MRO and NonWovens) usually as a Senior Buyer.

I have a B.Sc. degree from the University of Montreal Business School (HEC) and have the CPSM designation from ISM.

What I really like about managing Supply Chains, and their related procurement activities, is that it brings lot of challenges and you have the opportunity to deal with so many different types of projects, roles and interface with a large range of different people and organizations.  Really, there is never a dull day in Supply Management from the basic issues of pricing, quality, and delivery, to managing and planning supply chain risk mitigation plans, contract negotiations, dealing with commodity management with index based pricing issues, and keeping up the numerous Supply Chains in sync with your customers’ demands.

I was born in born in Portugal and spent most of my life in Montreal Canada, a bilingual city, which has helped me a lot in dealing with international sourcing projects where cultural differences and sensibilities are aspects that should not be neglected in managing suppliers overseas.

To use someone else’s expression, “The minute you think you have things under control, the phone rings and by the end of that call you are saying ‘Holy Smokes!'”  Really, there is never a dull day.  That is why working in the Supply Chain field is so exciting for me and I hope to transmit this passion that I have to new Supply Chain Professionals entering this Profession.

I have been a member of ISM-Nashville for the last 3½ years.  I just recently had the honor of being elected as a Director to the Board and hope to volunteer in special projects that will help grow our professional organization in Middle Tennessee.  I think we are truly blessed to have such a great organization and such a nice group of dedicated members that are part of our chapter which is why I think this team is so special and so much fun to work with!

I have been married for eight years to my lovely wife Cheryl and live in a remote northern part of Hendersonville with our four cats. We enjoy photography and traveling into foreign countries, and my capacity to speak French, Portuguese and Spanish has proven to be very useful in these travels.

I enjoy attending ISM-Nashville monthly dinner meetings and the interesting camaraderie of the board meetings.  Please join us and check out our schedule for upcoming events.

Thank you – JohnD

Wondering why there are no upcoming events posted after May?

Never fear, ISM-Nashville Board of Directors are hard at work planning the 2013-2014 meeting schedule and will be finalizing and posting it during the Summer Break (June & July).

We look forward to seeing you in August!
